Seamless Matter integration in your smart home

The Aqara Motion and Light Sensor P2 is Aqara's flagship motion sensor – now with built-in, native support for Matter. This provides easier installation and stable interoperability in a Matter-enabled ecosystem, even when mixing products from different manufacturers.

The Sensor P2 can connect directly to Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, Home Assistant, and Homey via a Matter-compatible Thread border router. Functionality may vary between different ecosystems.

Thread protocol: robust, fast, and energy-efficient

With the Thread protocol, you get a mesh-capable connection with low latency and high reliability – all while keeping energy consumption low. The P2 also uses Bluetooth 5.0.

Motion + light: more automations than a standard motion sensor

In addition to motion detection, the P2 has an independent light sensor that can be used for separate light-based automations. This makes it easier to create scenarios, such as only turning on lights when it is actually dark. Please note that the light sensor function may be unavailable in some Matter apps, such as Amazon Alexa.

High precision with wide coverage

The wide 170° detection angle and range of up to 7 m allow the sensor to cover large areas. It is built to detect even subtle movements with high precision. Detection angle and sensitivity may vary depending on ambient temperature and distance. After connecting to an Aqara Hub M3, the detection range can be adjusted.

Easy mounting and discreet design

With the adjustable stand, the sensor can be placed on a wall, ceiling, or horizontally on a desk, for example, for more precise motion tracking. The discreet design is created not to resemble a camera, which can feel extra secure in spaces like bathrooms. Support is also provided for upside-down mounting.

Extra features in Aqara Home (with Hub M3)

When the P2 is paired with a Hub M3 and the Aqara Home app, you gain access to expanded capabilities, such as improved automations, customizable detection timeout and sensitivity, as well as a local warning/alarm system with notifications.

Battery life up to 2 years

The sensor is powered by 2 × CR2450 lithium batteries and can provide up to 2 years of battery life. Battery life is affected by which Matter ecosystem you use and how many Matter apps the sensor is connected to. For systems upgraded to Matter 1.2, up to 2 years is stated, while Matter 1.1 can provide up to 1 year.

Compatibility: what is required to get started?

To add the P2 to a Matter app, you need a solution that has both a Matter controller and a Thread border router. Examples of tested 2-in-1 devices include, among others, Apple HomePod (2nd Gen), HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K (2021), and Apple TV 4K Wi-Fi + Ethernet (2022); SmartThings Station, Aeotec Smart Home Hub, and SmartThings Hub v3; as well as selected Amazon Echo and Google Nest devices.
